Terms of Use
The ground rules for Farsi Doost and Doost Plus subscriptions.
Welcome to Farsi Doost! These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Work and Play LLC, a California company based in Woodland Hills, California ("we," "us," "our"). They cover the Farsi Doost iPhone app, the farsidoost.com website, and our lessons and features (together, "Farsi Doost").
By creating an account, starting a free trial, subscribing, or using Farsi Doost, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Farsi Doost.
1. Who can use Farsi Doost
- You must be 13 or older to use Farsi Doost. When you sign up, you'll be asked to confirm your age. We don't create accounts for anyone under 13. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will close it and delete its personal information.
- Adults (18+) may use Farsi Doost and accept these Terms for themselves.
- Teens (13 to 17) may use Farsi Doost with a parent's or legal guardian's permission. The parent or guardian should review these Terms with the teen, and by giving permission they agree to these Terms on the teen's behalf. They are also responsible for the teen's use of the app, including any purchases made with the parent's or guardian's Apple account.
You also agree that you are allowed to use Farsi Doost under the laws that apply to you.
2. Your account
- Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
- Keep your sign-in secure, and tell us right away at hello@farsidoost.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Accounts are personal. Please don't share or sell yours. Family members aged 13 and older can learn together through the Family plan.
- You are responsible for what happens in your account, unless it was caused by our mistake.
3. Doost Plus subscriptions
Some lessons are free. Doost Plus is our paid subscription that unlocks the full course and extra features. What each plan includes is shown in the app before you buy, and it may change over time.
Plans and prices
At launch, we plan to offer the following prices (in U.S. dollars, before any applicable tax):
- Doost Plus Monthly: $12.99 per month, with a 7-day free trial
- Doost Plus Yearly: $89.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial
- Doost Plus Family: $119.99 per year
Prices may vary by country and may change. The price shown in the App Store when you confirm your purchase is the price you'll pay.
Billing through Apple
All purchases in the app are made through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple charges your Apple account, and Apple's terms and policies also apply to your purchase. We never see your card details.
Automatic renewal
Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple may charge your Apple account for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. If we raise the price, Apple will let you know in advance and, where required, ask for your agreement before the new price applies.
Free trials
- The 7-day free trial is available on the Monthly and Yearly plans, to eligible new subscribers. Usually that means one trial per Apple account.
- If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before your trial ends, it automatically turns into a paid subscription, and Apple will charge the plan price shown when you started the trial.
- If you cancel during the trial, you may lose access to Doost Plus right away or when the trial ends, depending on Apple's rules.
Family plan
The Family plan lets the person who buys it share Doost Plus with members of their household, as described in the app at the time of purchase (for example, through Apple Family Sharing). The purchaser manages the plan and is responsible for it. Everyone using Farsi Doost through the Family plan must be 13 or older and have their own account. If the plan ends, everyone on it loses Doost Plus access.
How to cancel
Go to iPhone Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Farsi Doost → Cancel Subscription. You can also manage subscriptions from the App Store app. When you cancel, you keep Doost Plus until the end of the period you've already paid for, and then it won't renew. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel your subscription. We can't cancel Apple subscriptions for you.
Refunds
Apple handles all payments, so Apple handles all refunds. To request one, go to Apple's "Report a Problem" page (reportaproblem.apple.com), or contact Apple Support. Refunds are decided under Apple's policies, and we can't issue them ourselves. If something in Farsi Doost isn't working the way it should, email hello@farsidoost.com and we'll do our best to fix it. Nothing in these Terms limits any refund rights you have under the law.
Restoring purchases
If you get a new device or reinstall the app, tap "Restore Purchases" in the app while signed in to the same Apple account you used to subscribe.
4. Our content and your license to use it
Farsi Doost belongs to Work and Play LLC. That includes Doost the lion and all other characters, artwork, and animations; the Farsi Doost name and logo; our lessons, scripts, scenario packs, flashcards, audio, Finglish transliterations, and translations; and our software and design. These are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Farsi Doost for your own or your family's non-commercial learning, while you follow these Terms. We keep all rights we don't expressly give you.
5. Acceptable use
Please be kind and use Farsi Doost the way it's meant to be used. You agree not to:
- Copy, share, sell, or republish our lessons, audio, artwork, or Doost the lion, beyond normal personal use of the app
- Get around Doost Plus, a free trial, or any other limit, or share paid access outside your Family plan
- Scrape, download in bulk, or use bots or automated tools to access Farsi Doost
- Use our content or AI output to build or train a competing product or AI model
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app, except where the law specifically allows it
- Interfere with our systems or security, or upload malware
- Record or submit anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexual, or harmful, especially anything involving minors
- Pretend to be someone else, or use someone else's account without permission
- Use Farsi Doost in a way that breaks any law
If you break these rules, we may limit, suspend, or close your account (see section 10).
6. Your content, including voice recordings
"Your content" means what you put into Farsi Doost, such as your answers, your voice recordings during speaking practice, and messages to us. You keep ownership of your content. You give us permission to use, store, process, and transmit it only as needed to run Farsi Doost for you: to score pronunciation, give feedback, save your progress, provide support, keep the service secure, and meet legal requirements. This includes sending recordings to our speech-processing provider. How long we keep your content and how we protect it is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Please don't include private or sensitive information, such as addresses, phone numbers, or other people's information, in speaking exercises or messages.
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve Farsi Doost without owing you anything.
7. Learning aid, and AI feedback isn't perfect
Farsi Doost is an educational tool to support learning Persian. It is not a school, a tutor, a certified course, or a professional translation service. We can't promise fluency, a grade, or any particular result. Progress depends on practice, and every learner is different.
Pronunciation scores and Doost's feedback are produced by automated speech-recognition and AI technology. They can be wrong, especially with accents, background noise, younger voices, or regional ways of speaking. A low score doesn't mean you said something "wrong," and spoken Farsi varies from family to family. Translations and Finglish spellings are learning aids, not official translations. Please use your own judgment and don't rely on Farsi Doost for legal, medical, official, or safety purposes. If you spot a mistake, we'd love to hear about it at hello@farsidoost.com.
8. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Farsi Doost working well and accurate, but it is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that Farsi Doost will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every device. Some places don't allow certain warranties to be excluded, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Work and Play LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or opportunities, arising from your use of Farsi Doost.
- Our total liability for any claim related to Farsi Doost will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Doost Plus in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $50.
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct, and they do not take away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
10. Indemnity
If you misuse Farsi Doost, break these Terms, or violate someone else's rights, and that leads to a claim against us by someone else, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, including reasonable attorneys' fees, to the extent the law allows. This doesn't apply to ordinary personal use of the app in line with these Terms.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Farsi Doost and delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account in the app, or by emailing hello@farsidoost.com. Remember to cancel your subscription with Apple separately.
We may suspend or close an account if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, puts other people or our systems at risk, or if the law requires us to. When it's reasonable, we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the problem. If we close your account without a good reason under these Terms, you can ask Apple for a refund of any unused paid time, and we will support that request. Sections that by their nature should continue after termination (such as ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and disputes) will continue.
We may also change or discontinue features of Farsi Doost. If we discontinue Doost Plus entirely, we will give reasonable notice in the app.
12. Apple App Store terms
If you downloaded Farsi Doost from Apple's App Store:
- These Terms are between you and Work and Play LLC, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Farsi Doost or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Farsi Doost.
- If Farsi Doost fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price under its policies. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Farsi Doost.
- Apple is not responsible for any claims about Farsi Doost, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection or privacy claims, or intellectual property claims. Work and Play LLC is responsible for these as these Terms provide.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must also follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, such as your wireless carrier's terms.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
- Your use of the app must also follow the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms and Conditions.
13. Governing law and resolving disputes
Let's talk first. If you have a problem with Farsi Doost, email hello@farsidoost.com with "Dispute" in the subject line and a short description. Most issues can be solved quickly. You and we each agree to try in good faith to resolve a dispute informally for at least 30 days before starting a court case.
California law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Where disputes are heard. Any dispute that isn't resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you and we agree to those courts' jurisdiction. Either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court instead. If you live outside California, you keep any protections that the consumer laws where you live give you and that can't be waived.
Notice for California users. Under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, California users are entitled to the following notice: you can reach the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Farsi Doost grows or the law changes. We'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Farsi Doost after the change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, stop using Farsi Doost and cancel your subscription before it renews. Changes won't apply to disputes that started before the change.
15. Other legal terms
- Entire agreement: these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and the purchase details shown at checkout are the whole agreement between you and us about Farsi Doost.
- Severability: if any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- No waiver: if we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- Assignment: you can't transfer these Terms to someone else. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of our business, and your rights won't be reduced as a result.
- Events outside our control: we aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by things we can't reasonably control, such as outages at Apple or our providers, internet failures, or natural disasters.
